Ever wonder what Christmas is like for the other half? That is, Christmas in Australia. Without the snow, the cold, the blizzards and sitting by the fireplace. Think sun, surf and sunshine. Imagine Christmas in July....but with koalas, kangaroos (boomers), kookaburras, flowering gum trees, and the southern cross (star constellation). There's Christmas dinner in the backyard around the pool, enjoying a BBQ and a beer. Many flock to Bondi Beach to celebrate in the sun, surf and sand.  Tis the season to be hot and humid..lol  And while many still enjoy the traditional meal of turkey, pork and ham with all the trimmings, seafood is actually very popular for Christmas dinner here.

I love a Sunburnt Christmas
The heat admist the cheer
Air cons working overtime
and no snow to be seen here -
I love the sunshine greeting
that wakes us at first light
And shines until the Southern Cross
envelops us at night.

Yes, Christmas in Australia is not the same as most know Christmas to be. To most, the thought of celebrating in summer just doesn't seem right as we can't imagine keeping warm by the fire and having snow fall outside our windows. lol  Think a lavish 4th of July with a Christmas tree. lol

This kit is a touch of all things Christmas with a traditional Aussie flavour, though a Surfin' Santa didn't make it into this one. lol But our national floral emblem  can be seen throughout - the beautiful yellow wattle flower.

So sit back and relax by the barbie for Christmas beneath the Southern Cross.

:: CHRISTMAS AROUND THE WORLD - AUSTRALIA ::

Christmas is celebrated diffferently around the world in different countries - some depending on culture, some on traditions and others on climate and weather. We're all familiar with the traditional themes on Christmas cards depicting Santa in his sleigh over snow-covered houses, snowmen or vintage scenes of shoppers rugged up against the cold. So much so that people forget there are other parts of the world where it is summertime at Christmas...like here in Australia!
There is no snow, no huddling around the fireplace, no snowfights or snowmen. Australia is a very temperate climate and at Christmastime it is often extremely warm. Many families head to the beach, have pool parties or BBQs etc. While some still opt for the more traditional turkey, ham and roasts for Christmas dinner seafood is actually the most popular. And our tradition has Santa being lead by 6 white kangaroos (referred to as "boomers") on his sleigh...lol. So in Australia Christmas is celebrated somewhat differently.
In full size this kit is perfect for all your scrapping needs this Christmas, with a special touch of Aussie flavour.

An Aussie Christmas Tag by Me!

I had a request to make an Aussie Christmas tag from a very special friend of mine, and though I haven't yet done an Aussie Christmas kit this year (it's on my TO DO list...lol) I used Susan's gorgeous "Koala Christmas" available from Aussie Scraps.
Didn't feel much like tutting it so just had a play with some mindless tagging...lol I made it both with and without the greeting.
